Blacktip Reef Shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus)
Other common names: Spinner Shark. Blacktip Shark.
Identification: Upper body sandy brown. Lower body white. Long and pointed head with five gill slits. Tips of all fins and tail marked with black.
Temperature range: 21 - 30 Celsius (70 - 86 Fahrenheit).
Typical location: Over shallow reefs and canyons. Along current lines and temperature changes.
Fishing methods: At anchor or drifting with live and dead bait often in combination with chum.
Fighting characteristics: A good fighter with fast runs mixed with spiralling jumps and rolls on the leader.
