Dogtooth Tuna (Gymnasarda unicolor)
Other common names: Peg Tooth Tuna. Scaleless Tuna.
Identification: Upper body dark blue to black. Lower body gray to silver. Caudal keel and finlets dark. Big teeth and large eyes. Body without scales.
Temperature range: 25 - 30 Celsius (77 - 86 Fahrenheit). Typical location: Outside reefs in open ocean. Near continental shelf drop off and in reef openings.
Fishing methods: Trolling Mullet, Mackerel, Scad or small Tuna. Trolling big minnows. Trolling lures, konaheads and plastic squid.
Fighting characteristics: A tough deep fighter that always heads for obstructions on the sea bed.
