For fishing from boats a heavier construction rod is required.
This range of rods are called boat rods. They vary from short models
for bottom fishing, to lighter stand-up models for drift fishing.
They have a long butt to place the reel in comfortable position while using a rod belt.
Some models, furthermore, have a gimbal at the end of the butt,
to stabilize the rod under heavy load.
