From "Mellor Art"
David Mellor is a marine artist who finds the drawing of Marlin one of
the most challenging endeavours in painting. His ability to capture the power
and movement in his paintings is remarkable! David has never seen a Marlin
in its natural element but his ideas stem from his imagination.
Every painting is started in acrylics and then glazed in oil with, usually, a blue tint.
The whole picture is then painted over with oils, thus tightening the colours.
The painting takes ten to twenty stages of repainting and glazing with most paint
being applied, or removed, with fingers and knives, until it is completed.
The finishing touch is spray, which is painted mainly by flicking gooey
white paint with the tip of a suitable brush.
The Billfish Foundation official artist of the year 2002
and recognized by IGFA.
