Live Bait Rigging

Rigging up for fishing with live fish is one of the simplest and quickest rigs.

Below is described Thai Fishing Guide's recommended way of making this rig.

A stopper is pulled onto the main line (or a stop knot is tied on the line)
followed by a bead.

Then the line is passed through a suitable size float
and tied onto a swivel using a Blood Knot.

The prefered hook is tied onto a braided leader using a Triple Palomar Knot.

At the other end of the leader (approximately 30 cm) a loop is tied using a Bimini Twist.

The leader is then attached to the swivel by passing the loop through the swivel
and then passing the hook through the loop of the leader and then pulled tight.

A live fish can then be rigged by pushing the hook
through the back of the fish just under the dorsal fin.

The float used should only just be big enough to prevent the live bait from pulling it under,
and the stopper should therefore be adjusted to the absolute maximum depth you wish to fish.
